Are you in China or going to China, well many websites are blocked and you won’t be able to access many popular sites, like facebook and twitter for example.
There is a website where you can check to see what websites might be blocked before you go.

The best way to make sure you can circumvent this is to use a reliable VPN provider.
Not all VPN providers will work in China as they do actively look for VPN providers and try to block them, also as they are wise to VPN providers they also typically by standard now block all PPTP VPN connection, so your VPN provider would be best using OPEN VPN and then they would probably set this up on a special port for you.
